How to Merge and Split PDF Files
Like with any other PDF feature or function, you can also merge and split PDF files with online sources (Pdf.co), Adobe, or applications (PDF Multitool). Sometimes merging multiple PDF files is necessary when combining collaborative data together, to save disk space, or to send fewer attachments, such as when emailing. Splitting PDF files comes in handy when you want to cut back on irrelevant information, focus on certain topics within a PDF, or simply to distribute the data. Whatever your need is, both merging and splitting are relatively simple to do. As a side note, Mac users have the option of using built-in Preview as a merging and splitting tool.
How to merge PDF
You can merge PDF files using two methods: selecting specific pages from one or more PDF documents or combining multiple PDF files into one. Be aware that these two methods are not always available on certain applications or websites.
Merging PDF files
With PDF Multitool opened, go to “Utilities” and click on “Merge Documents”. Under “Add”, select the PDF files you wish to merge. Once you are done, hit “Go” and then save the new merged PDF file. On Pdf.co you go to the “Merge PDF” box and click on it. Afterward you upload all the PDF files you wish to merge, either from your computer, Dropbox, or URL source. Hit “Proceed” and get your downloadable merged PDF file.
Merging PDF files with other applications or online websites
As with previous functions, you will need to search online with an internet connection for a reliable site that offers PDF merging capabilities. Once you found one or two, a quick upload of the PDF files you want is required. Some websites will offer the option of rearranging or deleting pages and you can do so before finally submitting the end product to be merged. Download your new merged PDF file and check the contents. Applications work the same way and have the added benefit of working on various devices, such as smartphones or tablets. However, you will require downloading and installing the application (or software) before using and this will take up disk space. Most applications and software available online are free to use but may include advertising.
How to split PDF
Splitting PDF files can also be done via two methods: dividing pages into one PDF file or across multiple files. The following steps are how to split PDF documents into PDF Multitool and in Pdf.co.
How to split PDF
Open PDF Multitool and the file you wish to split. Choose “Split Document” under the “Utilities” section and then choose how you wish to split the PDF file (page ranges or removal for example). When done, click on “Go” to proceed with the splitting. If you wish to do PDF splitting online, go to Pdf.co and upload your file. Afterward, click on “Proceed” to complete the process and acquire your newly split PDF.
